Synopsis

Der Sieg des Glaubens is the first Nazi propaganda film directed by Leni Riefenstahl. Her film recounts the Fifth Party Rally of the Nazi Party, which occurred in Nuremberg, Germany, from 30 August to 3 September 1933. The film is of great historic interest because it shows Adolf Hitler and Ernst Röhm on close and intimate terms, before Hitler had Röhm killed during the Night of the Long Knives on 1 July 1934. The man who walks at Hitler's side in this film, Ernst Roehm, is murdered on Hitler's orders less than a year later. Roehm was making power moves which threatened Hitler's control on the state. So, in the next film a year later, in the more famous, or infamous, Triumph of the Will, Roehm is not by Hitler's side, but his successor is, the benign Viktor Lutze, as well as the sinister Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS and Gestapo, who made sure Roehm was removed.

Quite an impressive documentary of the National Socialist party convention in the traditional city of Nuremberg, with the preparations beforehand in the beautiful, old city center, speeches, and parade afterward. Artsy direction of Leni Riefenstahl.
