This is strange melodrama in that it shifts back and forth between stiff silent film style acting and pre-Code realism and emotionalism. There is nothing really risque - save by the standards of the day - and those things that seem risque are always so by way of misinterpretation, Marian Marsh is the best thing about the film, projecting a kind of sarcastic realism as well as a need-to-be-loved sweetness.
