Classic Television Commercials (Part VIII) (1948)

This has been my favorite of the classic commercials collections. All of the concepts in these ads are still pretty modern (Maxwell House has used that song in recent years), but the retro look and music makes it really fun to watch. Surely the Butternut Coffee commercial was done by Jay Ward? Or it was at least meant to look like Rocky and Bullwinkle

Where is Volume VII? I love watching these commercials. So many memories come just come flooding back (Maybe I watched too much TV as a kid?...). I remember some of these better than the shows they sponsored. Thanks, Warren

The hilarious "subliminal" coffee ad has got to be the work of the legendary Stan Freberg. Cracker Jack guy is of course Jack Gilford ("Cocoon") -- I remember this ad from when I was a kid!

Great ads, but these are late '50s to early-mid '60s. We had a '62 Impala convertible that looked a lot like the car in that Hertz ad. I recall the Cracker Jacks ad, and the rest of that series in the mid-late '60s as well. All of these are great examples of the period. BTW the movie Good Neighbor Sam (1963), partly set in an ad agency, contains several spoofs of those Hertz commercials that "put you in the drivers seat".
