From the safety of our 21st century ivory towers it is laughable to hear a narrator describe gorillas as "bloodthirsty"; creatures who grow up raiding tribal villages to kill human children and abduct the females. Nowadays we know this is utterly preposterous, but we didn't know that back in the 1940s. We didn't know that our perceptions of gorillas were so off-the-mark. Today, I only want to point out that there's a reason our knowledge of gorillas was so inaccurate for so many years. This film has some slight historical significance, but some nilly willy will probably get all offended by frontal nudity or of tribes women baring their breasts, but more offending by far is the narrator and his trite little words and comments describing things like a 50's-60's summer picnic.. "Boy Oh Boy..what a treat!" as the children eat roasted caterpillars. I seriously doubt he ate one and these people are living on the thin edge of existence not some fun, happy Hollywood party with plenty for everyone with their plastic credit card purchasing power.
