Synopsis

Dr. James S. Strickland shows how an electrolysis experiment enables us to count the number of elementary charges passing through an electric circuit in a given time and thus calibrate an ammeter. He explains that elementary charges in an electrolysis experiment are identical to those in a Millikan experiment, and demonstrates the random nature of motion of elementary charges with a current of only a few charges per second.
