Synopsis
A gang of criminals, which includes a piano player and an imposing former convict known as 'Gruesome', has found out about a scientist's secret formula for a gas that temporarily paralyzes anyone who breathes it. When Gruesome accidentally inhales some of the gas and passes out, the police think he is dead and take him to the morgue, where he later revives and escapes. This puzzling incident attracts the interest of Dick Tracy, and when the criminals later use the gas to rob a bank, Tracy…

RKO Radio Pictures picked up the Dick Tracy franchise in 1945 and made 4 Dick Tracy features. The first three were pretty good somewhat filmnoirish entries first with Morgan Conway and then with Ralph Bryd (the Original Dick Tracy from Republic Pictures) starring in the last two. This is the final entry and maybe the best, but it is a light-hearted tongue-in-cheek romp from start to finish. Boris Karloff is just great and never breaks a smile throughout. The entire cast is perfect and plays the entire film straight. It's a delight. I've owned it for years and enjoy it. You will too. Enjoy.

Agree with Bobsluckycat, this one is delightful. Byrd is about as much a tough guy as Ward Cleaver, but he's having fun and so are his supporting players. Karloff is terrific as the menacing gangster, convincingly though quietly murderous. The plot is just comic booky enough to maintain interest. Very good B feature.
