Throughout the episode, it is mentioned that this is not a typical episode. Instead, they play a massive news years eve gag, by having the dancers sing, the announcer play the violin, etc etc. The episode contains lots of insanity, plus some un-PC comedy, music, a studio audience sing-a-long, and about four classic commercials. Considering the rarity of Australian TV from this era, I instantly give it 4/5.....but the episode itself is also surprisingly entertaining, if a bit silly. I give it an extra star because I really liked the comedic game show segment and accompaning fashion show.

This particular episode of IMT is a rarity in that it's taken from a 2" master - the overwhelming bulk of surviving Australian material from this period exits only on kinescope. Re public domain status - Australia signed a Free Trade Agreement with the US in 2004. Under the agreement, copyright exists for 70 years from the first performance (raised from 50 years), meaning that this item isn't public domain until December 2031...
