Jane Eyre is a 1970 British film directed by Delbert Mann, starring George C. Scott and Susannah York. It is based on the 1847 novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. The film had its theatrical debut in the United Kingdom in 1970 and was released on television by NBC in the United States in 1971.

Although there're a lot of contents had to be eliminated from the original novel, given only 100 minutes for the film, it has retained the integrity of the essence of the Brontë's writing at its best. Love the sound track, acting and the cinematography.

I remember seeing this rendition on TV and nver forgot it for the tremdous quality of the acting and its keeping to much of the storyline.

I am so glad this was available digitally. Searched for years. Music by John Williams...just lovely. My personal favorite version of this classic.

This movie came in so poorly that it barely rates a star for me. I know the Jane Eyre story well as it has been done so many times before, and I prefer the Joan Fontaine/Orson Welles version. George C. Scott is not my idea of a romantic leading man, coarse or not, and Susannah York was twice the age of a young Jane Eyre who was to have resided at Lowood for only 10 years. The first part of the movie where she lives with a distant Aunt and the reasons for Jane going to Lowood are no where to be seen. If Hollywood sees fit to make another version (there was at least one made after this)please…

The ONLY thing good about this movie is the John Williams Soundtrack......everything else is pretty mediocre.....the casting was unfortunate.....
