Synopsis
In Junction 88, a small all-black community, pretty Lolly Simpkins loves gentle songwriter Buster Jenkins, who makes too little money to marry. Her father favors rival suitor Onnie, crude but with a better income. Buster's best chance comes when impresario Bob Howard, to whom he's sent songs, comes to town looking for him. But Bob is looking for a pseudonym, 'Hewlett Green', that nobody's ever heard of. Will Buster reveal himself? Meanwhile, a very jazzy church concert.

IMDb puts this movie at 60 minutes, but there's only 49 here - but 49 minutes packed with some fine music, a little comedy and sporting a feel-good ending. The plot is minimal, as in just enough framework to make this more than a variety show video. All the entertainers are great - Noble Sissle and his Band were famous; so was "Pigmeat" Markham. Bob Howard, a sort of Fats Waller type, Wyatt Clarke (rather stiff as an actor) and Marie Cook were all very good singers and musicians. The supporting actors did what was asked of them and did it well. Gotta give it four stars for the music.
