If that was me I'd be screamin like a bitch and running around like a chicken with its head cut off right from that scene at the ironing board. Most women about this time got knocked out cold near the end and had little or no recollection of the actual birth. This one was so cavalier about it, though. This narrator is the one (or one of the ones) in that day that always says "you" with that hollow, almost operatic pronunciation of the "ou." It was real in in the 30's. Good film. Actually pretty up to date except hospital lobbies these days look more like 5 star hotels or airport terminals…

The curiously out of date of what to do when you go to the hospital to give birth is shown hear, with diagrams, instructions and very out of date notes. Did you know they shaved the pubic hair off before birhing? That it's wise to put on plenty of make up before you go to the hospital AND to bring some with you to the hospital? That there will be plenty of scary looking anaesthesiac options availible to you? It doesn't get graphic, but it DOES get strange.

There is very little that has changed about the process of having a baby in America. This information about what the mother-to-be can expect is largely still of value. Modern labor and delivery films show more graphic images of the baby emerging but this film was from a more subdued time.
