Metamorphosis (1958)

A camera, close enough to render body parts (sometimes) unrecognizable and often out of focus, plays slowly over a woman's naked body as gentle music plays. The abstracting of her body indicates that she represents not herself, but Woman. Then verses start about Woman which I found uninteresting and insipid. Here's the problem- this Ode to Woman doesn't ring true. Apparently Woman has no head, feet or hands. And after the camera has shown a blurred arm or leg, the director seems always to be able to find the focus mechanism when the camera reaches her breasts or derrière. I'm no prude, but…
