NBC Television Network ''Promo Special'' (1969)

With exception of "The Debbie Reynolds Show" which seemed like an "I Love Lucy" throwback, all of these shows were sophisticated and innovative. "Then Came Bronson" "The Bill Cosby Show," and "My World and Welcome to It" were very quiet and sweet with marvelous acting (Michel Parks, Bill Cosby, and William Windom)and writing. "Bracken's World" was a lot of fun. Sadly,all these shows only lasted one season, with the exception of Cosby, which lasted only two. It seems that the executives at NBC were slightly more sophisticated than the American people generally.

A few observations: The scene with the doctor in scrubs confronting the naked colleague in the steam room would be, well, inappropriate at every other time except decadent 1969, the year of Altamont. Paging Dr. Polansky, Dr. Roman Polansky. You have an emergency at home. My World & Welcome to It, I remember watching. Wasnt a bad homage to Thurber, the Harvey Pekar of his day. Except he could draw. The show somehow got the "real" Thurber and the fictional Mitty confused tho. Unless that was the point, duh. The up-yours attitude of all the black people depicted supports the hypothesis that Mike…
