Police Station (1959)

This is one of the best crime shows made. The acting was good, an it had great timing. But it might have got lost because there were so many crime dramas on TV at the time. There are 39eps out there. Also it is the year I was born,lol.

This painfully low budget production (did they only ever use the one music cue?) wants so much to be Dragnet at the very time when Dragnet itself had run out of steam. While the acting and dialog is a bit more lifelike than Dragnet (the two uncredited "juveniles" are both actually pretty good in their roles) the plots and their resolutions are terribly simplistic--kind of like the title. There's even a Dragnet-style wrap-up at the end. Police Station is a cookie-cutter type of production. Not really bad, but neither is there anything to distinguish it from a dozen other crime shows except…

LA does not have police precincts. They have divisions. These fly-by-night TV productions always play fast and loose with the facts. The movie The Naked City, was a very good portrayal of a police precinct and the detective squad. It was filmed on location during the summer of 1947. It had a top shelf cast. The spin-off TV series, by the same title, was fair in the first season but devolved into a social justice-touchy-feely soap opera. Authentic police portrayals are practically non existent.
