Taking the "X" out of X-Rays (1940)

Good film that clearly and concisely explains how the x ray tube works and displays how this form of energy allows imaging of internal structures. For some reason I did not appreciate the innuendos elaborated on by a former reviewer. I have no idea what he was talking about.

Poor Dr. Coolidge looks like he wants to flap his ears and fly out of this short film. He doesn't appear at all comfortable. The subject is pretty dry to begin with, and the on-camera discomfort doesn't help. The short features an historical preface with an announcer explaining things. The director employs wipes, as well as still drawings and very limited animation.

The narrator of this little informative short looked like he had to knock back a few to participate, and wants you to know in his own special way. This man personifies the concept of "begrudge". The disapproval for all this here filming nonsense is written all over his face. He literally SCOWLS a couple times before beginning his sentence as if right before the cameras rolled some heavy yelling and perhaps throwing of light bulbs ensued. Some good black and white visuals in here but pretty thin on the ground compared to some of the jewels on this site. Worth watching anyway, if only for the…
