Flight Overdue (1952)

I have never been a big Veronica Lake fan but her performance in this impressed me. She had a reputation for being somewhat difficult but, given the constraints and pressures of early television, she delivered an assured and natural performance here. I should also note that the lovely Adrienne Corri later made quite an impression in Kubricks's "A Clockwork Orange".

There is no science fiction tale here but we do see humanity in a gritty way. The overachieving first wife who let all others wait for her self-indulging behavior. The second wife wanting her husband to finally stop waiting for the departed and truly devote himself to her . The husband, when learning of his first wife's planned trip to the moon in 1952 is happy she crashed and died, not so impressed by the sheer magnetic of travel in outerspace. At least the government was trying for the Moon instead of Mars or Venus. But seriously folks. 1952?
