Synopsis
Eight people, all of whom have reason to hate at least some of the others, are invited by a mysterious unknown host to spend the night in a penthouse apartment. The eight (5 men, 3 women) are wined, dined, then greeted by their host's voice via a radio broadcast. The voice announces that before the night is over each one will be systematically murdered unless they manage to outwit their ninth guest Death. Based on the mystery novel The Invisible Host (1930) by Gwen Bristow and Bruce Manning.

A great movie, with a fine script and convincing performances from everyone. Excellent for its tension and eeriness - the kind that Neil Simon so ineptly tried to parody in "Murder by Death." The only flaw was the attempt to add a little comedy via the silly performance of Vince Barnett as an inept butler. And, kudos to the director, Roy William Neill, who went on to direct "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman," "The Scarlet Claw" and the last 11 of the 14 Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone (from Wikipedia and IMDb). There is a better copy on the IA under Feature Films - The Picfixer…

I was watching (or rather listening) to this while I was working. Very nice. I didn't figure it out, didn't get to see all of it, but the killer's attitude at the end was creepy. He did a good job acting crazy.

Almost at the end when I figured the killer. Just one thing, in real life, if I found electrical tape at the beginning and then the phone lines cut, I just just wire them back, but I guess then no movie. I enjoyed it. A little hammy, but then I need that sometimes.
