An independant production with the studio services at Republic Pictures and on location at the (then) new Pioneertown in August and September 1949 and directed by John Sturges (soon to be one of THE action directors of the 50's and 60) starts out taunt and fast and ends the same way, but does that middle drag to a crawl. It's an interesting story as read but doesn't translate to the screen very well, plus you have the vagaries of "The Production Code" which kept a lot off the screen. You can read between lines somewhat, but... It's a near miss which finally was distributed by RKO Radio…
