Bigmalc you said it all. Your review I cannot come close too. You described and showed how important this movie is, as a warning to the world about how progress can become utter madness and turn into regress. Those who don't shape progress with the utmost care, but are blind believers in progress, lead us into misery on earth. Right at the start Raymond Massey says it all : "if we don't end war, war will end us"

As Arthur C. Clarke noted, crowds laughed at the idea that London could ever be bombed. The movie suggests a future history with a long arc, much like Asimov's "Foundation" series. Slow paced, and likely more effective now than when released. Questions of morality, technology and society are explored. This is the sort of movie that wouldn't be made today. The same material would turn into a splatterfest due to budget constraints and laziness these days.
