I am thinking about using the sound bite “But the rich pay the taxes why should I, Wally?” for a song. It was a very good find, and just the sound I was looking for. As far as I’ve seen, it seems quite boring after that. But it does showcase ways people running for political campaigns make their propaganda. It shows a working man (who I assume is played be the guy running the campaign), which shows the ‘just like the common man’ bit. It also has patriotic music, another common trope. Republican Party film shows workers and declares that taxes and the New Deal take their money and waste it instead of spending it on the military. As usual for Republicans, insults France and England, and is an overall bizarre arguement given what is known historically about the economics of the era, FDR's administration, and WWII.

This starts out as a long-winded discourse on taxes, but ends up with a vicious attack on Roosevelt (who is strangely never mentioned by name). Using images of Hitler, Stalin, and marching German troops, it equates a fourth term for FDR with home-grown fascism..."we can't let it happen here!" Other than that, things haven't changed much. Democrats are criticized as big-spending bureaucrats who are soft on defense. And there's a very defensive argument against raising taxes on the rich. Some people never learn...

Awkwardly made film that states that wed have more money for weapons if, dammit, wed stop spending money on everything else! This is a bit of an interesting film for the purpose that this was a very early attempt at a polical smear film. Its not that controversial, so its a tad boring.

...no worse than the Democrat films from the same period (I once saw one of them, ands wow, did it suck and offend. Both films suck, but then, this is how most of today's political films will look 60 years from now). Thank Lord that this party's early 1950s campaign was more intelligent (and catchier thanks to a classic song written by Irving Berlin)
