Synopsis
An episode of the hugely popular 1950's Television series "You Bet Your Life", featuring the comic talents of Groucho Marx. A "comedic quiz show", much of this program's humor was improvised, although Groucho usually would have a very basic idea on who would appear each episode. Like most 1950's quiz shows, it wasn't rigged, but the scandals involving "Twenty One", "Dotto" and "The $64,000 Question" caused ratings to decline. I attended USC football games during the early '80s and remember Gypsy circulating through the crowd banging on his cowbell. I'd never heard of him, but my parents (who were longtime LA residents) knew who he was. I subsequently found a an old LP by Boots that includes the USC fight song, "We're Havin' A Love-In" and, of course, "These Boots are Made For Walking" among other tunes. What a character.

Saw Gypsy Boots around Berkeley in the 60s' pushing his Energy Bar and his cook book "Dirty Feet and Good Things to Eat". He was a pal of Moe Moskowitz proprietor of MOE'S Books on Telegraph Ave, and often hung out there. Groucho was a product of vaudeville and posessed superior intelligence-he's irreplacable he had style, wit and class. He appealed to a big percentage of the population regardless of age or class. MS BARKER WAS A PRETTY HOT NUMBER FOR AN OLDER WOMAN WHO RECEIVED A FEW WHISTLES FROM THE STUDIO AUDIENCE. SHE LOOKED SIMILAR TO OLD TIME ACTRESSES PENNY SINGLETON AND MARIE WILSON.
