Wartime Nutrition is a 1943 short film. One of the Allied propaganda films of World War II it urged civilians on the United States home front to eat healthier and follow the wartime ration guidelines.

This fun film is very similar to ÂFood For Fighting in talking about wartime eating habits. I like this film a lot better actually, as itÂs scope is a lot wider and itÂs footage and narration sometimes goes on the ridiculous side. We learn how the Europeans had to learn to ration food properly (thanks to the Americans!). This is quite interesting as it provides a glimpse of the way Europe had to change during the war. The film does head back to America and tells of all the wonderous things you can do with food rations! For heavens sakes, eat more of the foods you wouldnÂt think of eating!…

No nachos or pizza? No, this film comes from the days when people actually cooked food. And a lot of it wasn't around because it went to soldiers or poor countries. So the message of this film is eat nutritiously, even if you can't find the foods you like. Drink milk, even though it's rationed. Grow a Victory Garden where you can (in an apartment, that must have been a challenge). I think the narrator is Larry Elliott. Most of the film was shot silent.
