Synopsis
A gripping tale of WWII naval warfare in the Baltics, starring John Mills as Lt. Freddie Taylor, a British submarine Captain. The crew of the Sea Tiger are summoned from leave on shore with their families, and sent on a secret mission to intercept the Nazi battleship Brandenburg. In the ensuing battle the British submarine is damaged by a German destroyer. The submarine is leaking fuel so badly that the crew won't be able to make it back to Britain before running out somewhere along the Danish…

If you see only one British WWII film this year make it this one. The story is passable, the performances excellent but it's the little details that really make it stand out: Mills scene in the Turkish Bath with the Admiral hidden behind the curtain; A deadpan Eric Portman - 'Brandenburg - isn't that a type of cheese?', and the wonderful sub-plot involving the OA, the 'Swain, the girl and the tattoo. Truly we don't make them like this anyone.

Excellent submarine movie; operationally accurate, although damage control complexities were given a light treatment. Good character development; strong performances by all. Mills' performance during the torpedo attack sequence is spot on. All this and a rousing finale. Definitely watch this one!

Not having seen that many British WWII movies I I don't know which ones are better than the others. However StevieS's review is excellent and mirrors a lot of my own thoughts. John Mills was terrific, and the tight-lipped sailor who was losing his wife and kid was believeable and heroic in the sub-plot. Despite a slowish unrealistic skirmish with the Germans while refueling, this was a well worth watching movie.

PLOT: sub movie about a british sub who takes a Nazi ship in the BALTIC~ John Mills in the captain of the Tiger Fish a british sub assigned to sink a Nazi ship. This has some humor~ but is mostly a "propaganda" movie to boost the spirits of the brits~ the bath tub in the captains cabin is way over done~ complete with ruffled curtains` LOL more than comical~ as they pick up 3 Nazis ~ WHO END UP THEIR PRISONERS ON THE SUB~~ they get into the baltic~ and tangle with low fuel and the battleship~ I GIVE THIS 3 OUT OF 5 FOR INTERESTING MOVIE TO WATCH ONCE~ FOR A BETTER MOVIE TRY~ SINK THE BISMARK~
