Synopsis
After hearing that a famous actress is dying in a hospital after being hit by a car, a reporter goes to the hospital to interview the actress. She then tells the reporter that her wealthy fiance, who was killed in an accident several years before, was actually murdered. Before long the reporter finds herself in a web of corruption, mental illness and murder.

Paul Lukas can play the heroine or villain with equal panaché and believability, and have you loving his rewards, and, or punishments! The two he uses as puppets to do his bidding are great. The film has a well created impending atmosphere; a 5 by me!

Whispering City is of decent quality (black and white) picture and sound. The movie itself is entertaining, some good dialogue. I love old movies with amusing dialogue. This won't get 5 stars for dialogue, but it can do on a rainy day. The music is appropriate, the casting excellent, writing meh, but if you like old movies, this is an old movie!

This film is great! Someone should definitely produce a modern version. I would love to help produce that project. I immediately fell in love with Mary Anderson. She is the best part of the film. I also love the fact that it was filmed in beautiful Quebec. I'll be looking for a better print, if it is available. And as a musician, I really appreciate the musical element. I have also composed a piano concerto with romantic overtones so I can relate to the musician's aspiration.

Canadian drama, debatable whether it deserves the "noir" designation, but hard to pigeonhole anywhere else. Great music, reminiscent of Rachmaninoff; in fact, I checked the credits twice to make sure he didn't write it.

Slow-moving, Canadian-produced suspense drama begins as two separate stories which merge into one. Okay up until a farfetched conclusion you're likely to have seen before. Stars Paul Lucas, a surprisingly wooden Helmut Dantine and adequate Mary Anderson. Adequate also describes the production values and direction. Filmed on location in Quebec and at Montmorency Falls which are mostly seen as rear-screen projections. Conclusion: One viewing is enough. Except for intrusive sprocket noise in a few scenes, the print quality is okay.
