Synopsis
This is one of a 12 part series filmed with official approval in direct-cinema mode during the Cultural Revolution. The filmmakers sought to achieve a certain intimacy with their subjects by living at the locations. This part gives a view of army life in which officers eat with the men and the soldiers and their wives work in factories, community and cultural activities. For an alternative view of the Cultural Revolution see Peking Duck Soup
