Betty Boop: Parade of the Wooden Soldiers (1933)

There's a lot of stuff in that girl - wore the factories out - and then she was sent by special airmail to the toy shop - now that's a hot seller - and they could only turn out one. Betty becomes the Queen of the Toys at the toy shop - and then must be rescued by the toys from a stuffed gorilla's desire to put her head on another puppet. And yes, you see the back of Betty's bra and her underwear in the last scene. Not entirely for adults - there are some children's interest sections. Oh yes, you can find Rubinoff in the Alice Faye/Don Ameche film "You Can't Have Everything."

I really enjoyed this....I wonder if svankmajer ever saw it.... Nice touches....not as politically incorrect as other betties...but still very watchable. Good fun. Three and half stars

Poor Betty. The poor girl has so many clothing issues! At the end Betty is marching backward toward the camera. The back of her dress is torn off revealing her bra and panties. However, at the start of the scene, we see her in profile and her dress is fine. When did it get torn? For that matter, since the back of her dress never came above her waist in the first place, when did she get the bra? I'd give it an "average" because--wardrobe malfunctions aside--it follows the toyshop/bookstore formula so many others have used.

Was the "toyshop/bookstore formula" already done to death when this film was made? Anyway, that's one theme-- in a somewhat shameless bit of self-promotion, the new Betty Boop doll arrives by very special delivery to a toy shop, where she is instantly crowned queen by the other toys. Being that this is a BB 'toon, it's all just another setting for some dance routines and for Betty to sing a musical number. Things get more interesting, though, when the post-coronation celebrations set off a rag doll gorilla, to which Betty gets to play Fae Wray (the original 'King Kong' was also released in…
