The sight and sound of the serial killer screaming out his anguish at what he is, and has no control over the voices in his head, and having no memory of the act, only reading about it later. That it's impossible to run away from yourself no matter how far or fast you run. It is a stunning performance, just look at his eyes!! I was convinced of his innocence by reason of insanity. This was by far Peter Lorre's best performance before he was typecast later in his career.
