Synopsis
Heartbeat is a 1946 American romantic comedy drama film directed by Sam Wood and starring Ginger Rogers, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Adolphe Menjou and Basil Rathbone. It is a direct remake of the French romantic drama Battement de cœur, released in 1940. It was produced by the Hakim Brothers for distribution by RKO Pictures.

One other reviewer here remarks not understanding the title. This movie is what happens in the space of one heartbeat, 2 people fall in love, then we spend the rest of the movie watching that happen. Heartbeat refers to that moment, to that momentous heartbeat moment when she decided to go ahead and steal the watch. The whole movie works to the end sitcom scenes from that one moment on. And in a sort of time capsule and holistic overall way the title serves as the main idea, while the rest of the story is it's frame. It gives new meaning to the word heartbeat. Enthralling movie. Even Ginger Rogers` ditsi-blondness grows on you. But the best scene was the butler Eves' voice-of-reason speech. Pretty rare, I thought. Fun to see Basil Rathbone as the unscrupulous Prof. Moriarty type. Actually, he has unshakable principles about his unscrupulousness.

Ginger Rogers plays a girl who escapes a reform school and is taken in to learn a life of crime and from there a life of luxury and soon to learn that that life isn't all that good. A definate must see for the situations in the movie.

If you like this kind of stuff, but the odds of any of this happening to an American girl in Paris at that time period or any other period are pretty much less than zero so it has to fall under school girl fantasy stuff.. It still kept my interest and my dog really liked sitting up watching it i think more than I did. I can't recall any period in the entire movie where i was asking, "Will she get the young dashing diplomat or leave and go back to reform school?"
