Seeing this 1959 film today, and remembering all that happened after that, iis a bit saddening. Only 6 years later there occurred one of the most savage anti-communist pogroms (which was also racial since the Chinese were targeted), the Sukarno government was replaced by the Suharto dictatorship and any hopes of an independent path were largely dashed. This film explains the hopes for the future and the basic elements of the country after freedom from the Dutch.
