Tales of Tomorrow #15: The Dune Roller (1952)

I read the short story a few years ago, so I was looking forward to seeing this. It was pretty disappointing, due in part to the restrictions of small sets and a near-zero budget. Taken on its own merits though, it's a pretty good viewing experience. If you haven't read or know the story, I'd highly recommend watching this. If you have read it, don't expect too much.

As the pig-tailed kid, she was cute and, IMO, pretty talented. If you watch her listen to the old geezer, she seems to REALLY hang on his every word. Later all she's typically peppy and upbeat like all kids her age. Seems to have left the scene in 1956 after mostly uncredited performances. Too bad.

That would be: An ancient Rolling Stone that frequently lights up... I, too, have read the fine short story by Julian Chain May. (A woman writer-- not that it matters.) Isaac Asimov selected it as one of the best sf pieces of the year it was published-- 1951, I believe-- in his excellent Best SF story anthologies. It's been a while, but I'm sure the adaptation was a major overhaul of the plot, but it's not bad on its own budget-constricted live TV terms. You'd think that such a cash-conscious enterprise would probably have a limited number of works in the genre it could adapt, and I guess…
