On 28 Apr. 1957, this same script was performed, with a different cast, as a presentation of ALCOA HOUR. That time it was broadcast under the title "Mechanical Manhunt," and it was under that title that screenwriter Harold Swanton, won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Mystery Teleplay. In that verison, Meineicke, the insurance statistician who uncovers the murder plot, was played by Richard Kiley. Malotte, the cop, was played by Victor Thorley, Susan, the damsel in distress, was played by Sally Brophy, and Jerome, the murderer, was played by Robert Arden.…

In the summer of 1961, most of the previously "live" 1860 episodes of "THE CHEVY MYSTERY SHOW" were rebroadcast (on videotape) again as Dinah Shore's summer replacement {her production company- Sewanee- produced the series}- only Chevrolet didn't sponsor those repeats the second time around. "Participating" advertisers- including Procter & Gamble [Crest], The Mennen Company, Dumas-Milner [Perma Starch] and Chesebrough-Ponds [Vaseline]- bought individual minutes on the show. Because Chevy wasn't involved {they replaced Dinah with "BONANZA" that September}, the program's title was altered to…
