This film was done under Stalin and is heavily tainted by it's propagandic (yes, I invented the word)message: the grandeur of Lenin. Many directors suffered under Stalin, even the greatest: Eisenstein, had to end his career after the wrath of Stalin provoked by "Ivan the Terrible" seen as a veiled denunciation of Stalin. Dziga Vertov offers here a masterpiece, amazing montage, pace and hybridation (another new creation of mine) of silent and sound film: the sequence with the Soviet Union stopped in motion by Lenin's death is as haunting as it is amazing...
