Synopsis
Crash Corrigan, a recent graduate of Annapolis, and Diana, a go-getting reporter, join Professor Norton for a search for the source of a string of earthquakes, Atlantis. They ride Prof. Norton's rocket submarine searching the sea and little Billy Norton, the professor's son stows away, of course. Although Flash had the most popularity, the best looking girls and more stories (we always knew he could get out of any fix). Ray 'Crash' Corrigan wasnât anything to dismiss, he had brains and brawn (this guy could fight). From the very first episode his strength and athletic abilities are demonstrated to the viewer, not to mention his moral codes and loyalty via the doctor check-up scene and the comments of the officers of âfine follow, good chap and will make a good officerâ. This is the first serial I was exposed to as a kid, and it was a sentimental favorite until I watched it again recently. Now I realize why it was a favorite. Having recently watched every manner of serial, from Flash Gordon to Zorro, this stands out ss one of the most entertaining, highly creative and just plain fun. You don't watch these for the acting Ben, but rather the "GEE WHIZ" factor, the ability to appeal to kids like Billy, the adolescent in the sailor hat. Well it's the first serial I'm watchin here, so I don't know (yet) about the other three (I've seem some of Flash Gordon a long time ago though), and I must say that I rather enjoy it ! The cliffhanger at the end of the episod is quite worth to see : ) Anyway, about what Gentle Ben was saying, Plan 9 from outer space is not, to me, the worst movie of all time (just take a look at Star Trek VII Generations for instnace)and is far better than Night of the ghouls, from the same Ed Wood. I have watched all episodes of Flash Gordon, Ace Drummond, Radar Men from the Moon and the Undersea Kingdom. The acting in this serial is pretty bad, but if you are looking for laughs (a la Plan 9 from Outer Space) its OK. Not quite as bad as the movie rated the worst of all time, but close. I would rate Flash Gordon to be the best of the four, followed by Radar Men and Ace Drummond a distant third.
