I should know..I'm one.. What's not to love about the little blond in the lead? She was a dish and a half, but you're right, the real story was more than vanilla. I've been on parole and it's NOTHING like this although having a record does make it tough as nails. It seemed to take forever to get back to the story line once they got out. I kept expecting them to do something extraordinarily stupid like almost everyone does when they're out. A very light bit of romantic fluff put out by Republic Pictures. This little programmer is not to be taken very seriously. Nowhere in the whole film is a parole officer seen or parole mentioned. Prison looked like a cake-walk in a quick montage. Just enough crime and melodrama thrown in to keep you interested until the final fade-out. What's to like then? This reminded me of the trouble my own parents had about the same age in the late 30s when a person could be turned down for a job for any reason whatsoever. At one point my father almost gave up on the idea of marrying my mother, he was so discouraged. If she married him she would lose her teaching job and if he were unemployed they would both be in a desperate situation, along with any children the iffy birth control of the era didn't prevent. It was a lot more grim than this movie depicts but then who in the 30s wanted to see something THAT gruesome? It was hard enough for me to watch…
