Noir addict pretty well nails it. The chronology is out of balance. Post-noir trying to return to the “noir old days.” The film is still much better than the imitation noir films of today. Chinatown was the exception to that rule. That being said, make your own mind up on this roll. You might just enjoy it. I sheepishly must confess that I did.

Sadly by the mid-fifties film noir movies were drying up with quality. This movie's soundtrack for starters is downright irritating. Sound in an out with things being unclear..."The smoker" aka "sucker mouth Payne being typical. The beginning of a new time in film cinema.
