Even though it has the 'star' power of Tommy Kirk AND Tex Ritter, Freedom Highway isn't as good or delirious as "America For Me" and that somewhat hurts it. Essentially, it follows a LONG Greyhound bus trip from SF to Washington DC, with everyone looking peppy-go-lucky even though they've probably been travelling for days on end. Jerry Fiarbanks striking agian..and Greyhound and GMC! The bus is a Scenicruiser, THE cutting edge of 1950s buses, complete with 4-speed Dana/Spicer transmission [and convient solenoid button or-HA!-switch for reverse], and deck and a half. Only 1001 of this bus type ITSELF were done b teween 1953-1956, BUT,a respectable one. The model's GMC PD-4501. Some known performers used, as mentioned in the credits, and some vaguely familiar Capitol Hi=Q music. Aside from the hot girl (Mary) on the bus this film is a pretty boring history lesson.I love how all the guys on the bus are trying to hit on her. If any attarctive girls today ever try riding the greyhound alone I'm sure the same results will occur. The best scene is where some guy trying to pick her up grabs her at the bus terminal and kisses her. Mary slaps him across the face and says "you and your football manners".

Showered and dressed to the nines. It's 1956 back now. But, just 5 years later that would be a regular Greyhound Bus with parolees heading home (or somewhere, anywhere). Some broken home mom & kids heading to gramma's for a quick visit, a square meal, and (hopefully) some cash. No pearls, no boy scout. The automobile was like a moving house on wheels.
