Synopsis

Gangster and cop killer Jack Martin is on the run from the law, and hides out in a small town. Low on funds, he engineers a clever bank robbery that yields him a big bundle. Now he has not only the cops and the FBI after him, but also the local crime boss, who's outraged that an outsider can pull off a heist like that in his territory and not cut him in on it.

if you love vintage atomic mid-century kitsch.. you'll love the lamps, curtains, couches, music, wall art,. kitchen,. etc,. faboo! the actors aren't bad either,. although I almost fall asleep watching Matthau read those badly written lines,. cute story though.. i like the opening scam,. could never happen,. ever,.

PLOT: Walter Matthau is is very successful gangster Jack~ sets up a bank robbery to look like movie ~ Jack is a gangster who evades the polices and arrives in town and sets up his next caper~ getting the local law to be "extras" his *movie* he cleverly robs a bank and escapes~ but soon the local MOB is after Jack to offer him a job~ Jack mean while is hiding out as a manual laborer~ in a fruit grove working for a pretty blonde librarian~ who is hot for Jack~ soon Jack and the blonde~ move on as a couple and Jack is onto a great caper... stealing the BOOKIES money hidden in a golf club's safe~…

this film is so boring i should have been paid to watch it- so forget about it being free. nothing matches. the script and the actors- the action and the music- the plot and the drama all neatly set apart and aside from each other. horrible.

Well I can't blame them for my having watched it. Nice scenes of the Southern California of my youth. Not redemptive for the purpose of stars. It gets only one from me.
