I just finished watching both parts of "Heritage For Victory", the story about the Western Electric Laboratory, and I found the story fascinating and inspiring (OK, I am softy for that stuff; at 58, I grew up and trained myself on a lot of the technology that was developed in the 30's and 40's) As a youngster, I visited Holmdel and was inspired by Telstar, built a lot of ham gear with WW-II surplus parts that had WE markings on them... Overall, a lot of fun to watch this pair of movies.

A well made 1945 documentary on the now defunct Western Electric company. The narrator did a good job. Very interesting.

Quite insipid and snooze inducing film about the birth of the Western Electric company. We see how the company is born, when a man was trying to build a better teletype, to advancements in telephone technology, to, well, something. It seems to stall on that and never goes anywhere after it. Narrated by (I guess) a WE bigshot, the film hardly maintained my interest.
Western Electric, not General Electric · junya · 2011-04-04
The description and keywords state "General Electric", but this is about "Western Electric". Western Electric was a telecom giant that ended in 1995. General Electric is a multinational conglomerate, still going strong.
