Synopsis
An aging actor, trying to make a comeback on Broadway, is surprised when his estranged daughter shows up. It seems that she is an actress and is also trying to make it on Broadway. He tries to re-establish his relationship with her while also trying to hide the fact that she is his daughter from the press.

There is lots to like in this comic-drama. Bergen & Mc Carthy are hilarious, as is Eve Arden. Leeds and Menjou (and Bergen) re-team from their sublime pairing in "Goldwyn Follies." They seemed to have so much respect for one another. George Murphy, Ann Sheridan and many other welcome faces add to the entertainment. This is a good film, which is, perhaps, best appreciated second time around. Also, there is an Alpha DVD of this which is worth the pennies they ask for it.

Somehow I think the ending could have been changed to be a little more in keeping with the previous part of the story.

Starts out as a corny boy-meets-girl flicker, with Edgar Bergen as her best friend. Plenty of solid romantic comedy actors, and a decent premise. Then, things begin to go horribly wrong. The viewer, much like a frog in a pot full of water, doesn't realize just how bad it's going to get until it's already too late. Some screenwriters believe the key to a good movie is to be as cruel to one's characters as possible. If you disagree with this theory, watch something else.
