VERY entertaining collection of stories here! First Ive seen any of the Warner / Pathe collections, and it makes me itch for more! 1st clip features a guy who wants desperately to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. I guess his family made it a habit to try to go over without any luck. He suffers the same fate. Luckily he makes it out of his barrel alive. Unlucky for him, he breaks his leg on shore. HAHAHA! 2nd clip is a nice Cold War timepiece as a General Marshall gives a diatribe on why the commies are so evil and how they operate and therefore we need to help Europe arm itself! 3rd clip…

★★★★ · This newsreel is from 1948 · Angus T. Cat · 2005-10-11

The title reads 1955 but actually this film was made in 1948 -- The ribbon on the winning dog in the dog show can be read 1948. It's an excellent film and gives a fine portrait of the era.

The newsreel title appears to read 1955 but someone must have appended that up front. All the stories here are from 1949. 1.Maj Lloyd Hill first went over Niagara Falls on Jul 30, 1949. 2.The Berlin Air Lift ended in September 1949. Newsreel say it is now 'folding it's wings'. 3.Dog Show award says 1949. Looks a little like 1948 but compare the last digit with the first stylized '9' in the date. 4.The Kunst Paint factory fire in San Francisco was on Aug 1, 1949. My best guess is that this newsreel was released in August 1949.
