Mutt and Jeff play Sherlock Holmes style detectives on the trail of the mysterious "Phantom". Originally release in 1926, this film was hand coloured in the early 1930s and re-released.

I have to confess to having never even heard of Mutt and Jeff before, but this was funny, well colourised and exceedingly charming. Reminded me of the best of the old Felix cartoons, only, well, coherent. Happiness is finding something new to enjoy--one of my favourite things about the Archive.

As a kid the older people were always calling my brother and I Mutt and Jeff because he was so much bigger than me, but we had never seen Mutt and Jeff until years later as adults when it finally made sense.. I really enjoyed this one. I wonder how many other kids heard the name thrown around as well..
