St. Benny the Dip (1951)

The story was ho-hum, but well acted. I did notice the tint made this movie seem much older than it really was. I was reminded of a friend many years ago who stole one of his dads stag films and played it on his bedroom wall.. This movie reminded me of it for the tint..It just had a feel of being shown not on a big screen, but on someone's bedroom wall in the dark. The only real surprise was that only one character actually stayed in the mission, but you get the sense they all stayed to help out. Whether they do or not is left to the imagination and a bit of faith in the better parts of human…

This movie did not work completely for me because when I saw the movie I did not understand that it was a comedy. I kept waiting for the police to either arrest the gang or resume the pursuit, but neither happened. I felt that the intelligence of the police was underestimated.
