Synopsis

Nicholas Rood, dishonest mine owner, finds a Black Doll on his desk and knows that vengeance is about to overtake him for murdering his former partner. He is knifed as he talks to his daughter Marian. She summons her fiancé Nick Halstead, a private detective. Its worth a view if you can stand (A) Donald Woods (Nick Halstead) as an all too earnest, clean cut detective, who just happens to be the boyfriend of the the first murdered man's, C. Henry Gordon's (Nelson Rood's) - of course attractive - daughter Marian (Nan Grey) - and just happens to be on hand when the murder occurs. And (B) Edgar Kennedy (Sherriff Renick) who provides unneeded comic relief as the inept, pipe-smoking sheriff. The movie would have been a lot better without an idiot law officer, who gets much more screen time than he deserves. All the other actors do a decent job. The…
