Aqua Frolics (1950)

★★★★★ · Nice stuff · marc.a.dinger · 2004-11-11

Nice b/w scenes of having fun with water (my favorite substance). I do like the shots very much.

Safety has come a long way since this film. You'll see people water skiing without floatation, racing boats like only drunks do today, and pulling toboggans behind boats. Kids don't try this at home. Dated references: Bottlenose dolphin referred to as porpoises. "Nobody has ever trained a porpoise..." Don't miss the perspective shot showing the "giant sea turtle." Shot list: 1. Seals "showing off" 2. Dolphins with swimmers 3. Underwater shots of animals (including the giant sea turtle) 4. Underwater basketball 5. Underwater dinner (with after dinner smoking) 6. Skiing 7. Surf boat crossing…

★★★★ · Aquafrolics like water too much. They belong in Aquafrolics Anonyous. · Spuzz · 2003-08-22

Fairly cute summerttime short extoling relaxing in the water, whether it be just wading in the water or water skiing, surfing or cliff diving. There's LOTS of things you can do in water, mm hmm! Even have a turky dinner underwater. Why? Well, they didn't explain it to you in the film, and I'm certainly not going to tell you now.,.

Both sea animals and humans frolic in the water in this lively newsreel featurette. Some of the more interesting segments include an underwater Thanksgiving dinner, madcap speedboat races, and a rather pathetic game of underwater basketball. Mildly entertaining, as these featurettes usually are. Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: **. Weirdness: ***. Historical Interest: ***. Overall Rating: ***.

Apart from the overall-impression of watching AmericasFunniestHomevideo I liked the short underwater-scenes a lot.
