Synopsis
Criss Cross is a 1949 American noir crime tragedy film starring Burt Lancaster, Yvonne De Carlo and Dan Duryea, directed by Robert Siodmak and written by Daniel Fuchs based on Don Tracy's 1934 novel of the same name. The film was shot partly on location in the Bunker Hill section of Los Angeles. Miklós Rózsa scored the film's soundtrack.

Eddie Muller, the "Czar of Noir" rates it as no. 2 in his list of the 25 best noir films and offers unusually perceptive comments on the film in his "Noir Alley" series. Steve Thompson comes home to LA to be irresistibly drawn back to his ex-wife Anna, despite the ups and downs of their relationship. His mother and his best friend, a policeman, see that he is no more capable than before of resisting his urges and they take action. When Steve gets involved in crime to try and get Anna back, everybody loses. This is probably Lancaster's best noir film for a number of reasons. Stealing hearts or cash? Yvonne DeCarlo has a bit of both. Burt plays the chump and Dan Duryea is rock solid as the Machiavellian ringleader. My favorite was Steve McNally, who played the Lieutenant. Overall a great suspense film. It all gets wrapped up and delivered COD in the last scene.
