I really liked this movie. Forget you are living in post millennium political correctness times. I judged this movie on concept. My opinion, the 1st contact with aliens would most likely be robots. This Robot is very huge and kind of like Godzilla, not evil...just hungry. I like the fact the military approach to invaders just doesn't work here. Perhaps the special effects are dated but for the times, it's still neat. The scientists take ridiculous risks landing a helicopter on the alien robot to study it. But to the robot, they are not worthy of notice.This is 50's sci fi, not deep character…

This movie is a glorious mess. At times tedious, somewhat disjointed, its groaningly top-heavy tropes and staccato pacing punctuated by 50s technobabble waxing at times extremely prolix actually sustains itself on its own confident attitude. The movie seems convinced it has a story worth telling, and that pulls the viewer through. The conception of the titular monster though is memorable and creative. I remembered it long after I saw it as a kid. If you threw a bunch of middling acting, clips from military films, and bargain FX into a blender and hit the button, this would pour out when you…
