Synopsis

An attractive reporter investigating the mysterious destruction of an Illinois town stumbles upon a secret government laboratory conducting radiation experiments on vegetables. The lead scientist is eager to help find out what happened. Together they discover that giant grasshoppers are behind the devastation. Worse yet, thousands of them are headed toward Chicago! Can they be stopped... or is this the BEGINNING OF THE END?

One of the things I enjoy is spotting actors who appeared in other 50s monster movies. For instance, the highway patrolman who discovered the town of Ludlow destroyed also played the motorcycle cop in “Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers”. Both generals and the colonel were in that movie as well. One of the soldiers played the Bob Fanelli character in “It! The Terror From Beyond Space”. And this wasn’t Peter Graves only 50s sci-fi. Great stuff!

I remember this as a kid on late night monster movie and of course the great Peter Graves before Mission Impossible. The story is better than average big bug monster movie with good acting directing. It's worth a watch.
