Synopsis

In sleepy Santa Rosa, restless young Charlie’s world brightens when her sophisticated Uncle Charlie arrives for a long visit. But as his behavior grows increasingly strange, she begins to suspect that her beloved uncle may be hiding a terrible secret—and that danger has quietly entered her home.

I think that Joseph Cotten did such a fine job with this movie that I would have suspected him of being the killer . Teresa Wright was one of my mothers faves as well .My mother saw this movie in the theatre when it came out . And by that yes I am an oldie now too . Well fabulous movie if you have not seen it well worth the watch .

Superb film, in my opinion, for the plot, dialogue and acting. In this story, a small town California family receives a visit from a debonair relative from back east, Uncle Charlie. His namesake niece is initially enthralled by her charming, worldly uncle, but she gradually notices a disturbing undercurrent in his nature. Her curiosity about his past almost leads to her undoing. The dialogues are nearly perfect, and all the characters completely believable. Teresa Wright and Joseph Cotton are mesmerizing adversaries here.
