Dialogless short from the early to mid 1970s about drinking and driving, produced by the state of Colorado. The live action follows a fellow leaving his place deep in the Rocky Mountains. As he crosses a particular hazardÃÂ a bridge, a tunnel, a river, railroad tracksÃÂ the action freezes and a short animated piece is done about a similar situation in history; a caveman drinking to cross a bridge, a Roman chariot drinking while hurrying home and going through an arch, a dandy on a pennyfarthing drinking and riding down a hill, and a jazz age fellow and his old car. Stan Phillips directed this 1971 film in Denver, and did the live action photography. Phillips, long active as an animator and experimental filmaker, went on to become a member of the DGA, directing over 200 animated TV shows including "Madeline." Pat Oliphant, the Pulitzer Prize winning cartonist, did the character design. Jim Aitken (me) wrote the piece and operated the animation camera. The film was distributed world wide with success in the educational film field. Despite it's seeming simplicity, the animation uses sophisticated effects including multi-plane setups with varied focus, etc.…

This short film shows a range rover driving around the beautiful Colorado countryside, and in another side story, shows the history of people driving (or in the cavemans story, carrying) and drinking, all with the predictable results. Film was okay, nothing reall remarkable.
