Synopsis
The Outcasts of Poker Flat is a 1952 American Western film directed by Joseph M. Newman and starring Anne Baxter and Dale Robertson. The screenplay is based on a short story of the same name by Bret Harte. Harte's story has been brought to film at least five times, including in 1919 with Harry Carey and in 1937 with Preston Foster.

Obviously, it's a Western. And, in fact, the only movie I know of that's both western and film noir. Let's list the noir characteristics: 1) The anti-hero. Dale Robertson plays a "leave me alone" kind of gambler. 2) High contrast visual effect. Most of the movie is wonderfully lit by the fireplace alone. 3) No-nonsense dialogue. The only thing it misses is the 4) Femme fatale, although it seems that Miriam Hopkins as the fallen woman is supposed to be that but there aren't any scenes of her actually being "bad."
