Londoners Ray Milland and his sister, Ruth Hussey buy old creepy house, which is, of course, haunted. Meet Gail Russell who ironically plays a real innocent haunted daughter of dead owners. (Ironic, because Gail Russell wasn’t exactly innocent). Lots of little creepiness, not a whole lot of action until the end. No gimmicks, no shock stuff, just a sweet, slow, scary movie with a great cast. Fun little seance scene- I’m a sucker for those. Everyone is happy in the end, which is also very nice. Brits know how to do that, we Americans- not so much.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE FILM OF ALL TIME. I JUST LOVE THE DIALOGUE, THE ACTORS, THE AMBIANCE, EVERYTHING. I WATCH THIS FILM OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I CAN HEAR IT IN MY SLEEP. I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE IN THIS HOUSE ON THE SEASIDE.
